Partners in progress

Houston GPS provides a timely, structured, and seamless pathway to graduation. Our integrated system of strategies is designed to empower students by smoothing the transfer process between 2-year and 4-year colleges — helping to lower the total cost of attaining a degree along the way.

Here are a few strategic solutions provided by Houston GPS:

Degree Mapping

When enrolling at a community college, students take first-year courses in a broad area of study called a meta-major that meet requirements for four-year degrees at a university. Houston GPS meta-majors include:

  • Arts, Humanities, Communication and Design
  • Business
  • Construction Industry, Manufacturing and Transportation
  • Education
  • Health Sciences
  • Human/Consumer Services
  • Public Safety
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, Math
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences

Structured Schedules

To add predictability and ease scheduling on working students, colleges will work to schedule courses in consolidated and compressed time blocks, consistent each semester.

Proactive Advising

Based on predictive analytics, acts as an early warning system to monitor student progress and meet the needs of individual students through targeted intervention. Advisors more effectively track progress and provide early assistance.

Technology

Student progress is tracked in real time to provide a coordinated network of support.
