HOUSTON TX, June 18, 2025 / KHOU / — Houston Community College officially will be known as Houston City College.
The college’s board of trustees voted 6-3 to authorize the rebranding during the board’s regular meeting June 18, 2025.
HCC administrators had been mulling the name change since August 2024. The new name, which drops “community” from the institution’s brand, is intended to better reflect the school’s expansion into bachelor’s degree programs.
Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher led the effort to change the name, saying in August 2024 that the move was “critically important” and could boost enrollment in four-year programs and improve the school’s public image, Houston Landing reported in November.
The switch to Houston City College will better represent the school’s addition of baccalaureate degrees in artificial intelligence, robotics and health care management. The institution also plans to add three new baccalaureate degrees: business management and two new credentials for its cybersecurity and nursing programs.

Just a couple months after announcing new name, HCC releases new school logo
The school said the name change was to better reflect the school’s expansion into bachelor’s degree programs. HCC said the new logo, which you can see below, was a look “designed to capture the spirit, values and vision of the institution as it prepares for the future.”
“This is more than a fresh design — it’s a reflection of who we are and where we’re headed,” said Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D. in a post on the HCC website. “Our nearly 100,000 students, faculty and staff share in the excitement of this moment, because it symbolizes growth, unity and the promise of the journey ahead for HCC.”
Here is the new logo.

The school says that soon, the new logo will be on all communications.
